Chapter 78 - LUCAS

The man smiled.

Julian stepped outside.

“Lucas!”

The man didn't run.

He simply stood there.

“I've been waiting.”

Julian approached.

“Why?”

Lucas laughed.

“Because you took everything.”

“I don't know you.”

“You took my life.”

“I never knew you existed.”

“That was the point.”

Lucas looked toward the house.

“Emily.”

I stepped outside.

“Leave my family alone.”

He smiled.

“You still don't understand.”

“What?”

“You were never the target.”

I froze.

“Then who?”

“Noah.”

Julian stepped in front of me.

“You're not touching my son.”

Lucas shook his head.

“I don't want to hurt him.”

“Then what do you want?”

“The trust.”

“We don't have it.”

Lucas smiled.

“You do.”

He pointed at me.

“Your mother gave it to you.”

“My mother?”

“Elena.”

I looked at her.

She had come outside behind us.

Lucas stared at her.

“You should have stayed dead.”

Elena stepped forward.

“I survived because people like you failed.”

Lucas's expression hardened.

“You don't know what you're protecting.”

“I know exactly what I'm protecting.”

Lucas reached into his coat.

Police sirens sounded.

He stepped backward.

“This isn't over.”

Then he threw something toward us.

A small metal object landed at my feet.

A key.

Engraved:

V-001.

Lucas disappeared into the darkness.

Elena picked up the key.

She looked terrified.

“What?”

She whispered:

“This opens the original Vance vault.”
