Chapter 50 - THE CHOICE

I stared at my name.

“I don't understand.”

My father smiled.

“Your grandfather changed the trust again.”

“When?”

“After your wedding.”

I looked at my grandfather.

He nodded.

“You proved you could stand on your own.”

“So the trust belongs to me?”

“Yes.”

“And Noah?”

“You control it for him.”

I looked at the document.

All the money.

All the properties.

All the power everyone had fought over.

Suddenly, none of it mattered.

I pushed the document away.

“I don't want it.”

Everyone stared.

My grandfather frowned.

“You can't simply refuse.”

“I can.”

“You have a responsibility.”

I looked at Noah.

“I do.”

I took his hand.

“My responsibility is to give him a normal life.”

My father smiled.

“That is exactly why your grandfather chose you.”

Julian stepped closer.

“What will you do with the trust?”

I thought about everyone who had suffered because of it.

Then I knew.

“I'll create a foundation.”

“For what?”

“Children whose families were destroyed by financial abuse.”

My mother smiled through tears.

My grandfather looked relieved.

And Julian…

He simply took my hand.

No grand declaration.

No dramatic proposal.

Just his fingers around mine.

Noah looked up.

“Does this mean we're a family again?”

I looked at Julian.

Then at my father.

My mother.

My grandfather.

And finally my son.

I smiled.

“We're a family.”

But that night, after everyone had gone to sleep, I returned to the study.

The original trust documents were still on the desk.

I opened the final page.

There was one handwritten sentence beneath my grandfather's signature.

I had never seen it before.

If Emily chooses to reject the trust, the entire estate passes to the person who was betrayed first.

I stared.

“Who?”

Then I saw the name.

Michael Reed.

My father.

But beneath his name was another line.

And if Michael is alive, he must reveal the final account.

I froze.

My father had never told us about the final account.

I turned toward the hallway.

“Dad?”

No answer.

I ran downstairs.

The front door was open.

My father's coat was gone.

On the table was a note.

Only six words.

I have to finish what I started.

And beside it was a photograph of a bank vault.

On the back, someone had written:

ACCOUNT 909.

The war over the trust was over.

But the secret that had started it all…

had never been opened.
