Chapter 55 - JULIAN'S FAMILY

Julian didn't move.
“My father?”
Michael nodded.
“He wasn't the mastermind.”
“But he worked for Cole.”
“Yes.”
Julian looked devastated.
“What did he do?”
“He helped move money.”
“Why?”
“Debt.”
Julian closed his eyes.
“My father owed Cole millions.”
“And Cole threatened him.”
“Yes.”
“With what?”
“Your family's company.”
Julian looked at me.
“He made me believe our marriage was about protecting the business.”
I remembered the wedding.
The humiliation.
The new wife.
The public insults.
“Your father wanted me gone.”
Julian nodded.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because he believed if I left, you would surrender the trust.”
I stared.
“And the woman you married?”
“Victoria.”
“She worked for him?”
“Yes.”
My father interrupted.
“Victoria was Eleanor's granddaughter.”
I froze.
“What?”
“She wasn't your grandmother's daughter.”
“She was her granddaughter.”
“Then why did Eleanor pretend to be her?”
“To hide.”
I sat down.
The family tree was more complicated than I had ever imagined.
Then Julian said quietly:
“My father is still alive.”
Everyone turned toward him.
“What?”
“He disappeared after the investigation.”
Michael looked at him.
“Where?”
Julian took out his phone.
“I received this message yesterday.”
He showed us the screen.
