Chapter 46 - THE WARNING

That night, Noah woke me.
“Mom?”
I sat up.
“What happened?”
“There was a woman outside.”
My heart stopped.
“What woman?”
“She was standing by the gate.”
“Did you see her face?”
“No.”
“What did she say?”
Noah looked frightened.
“She said Grandpa was lying.”
I got out of bed.
“Did she say anything else?”
“She said…”
He hesitated.
“She said I should come with her.”
I immediately called Julian.
He arrived within minutes.
The security cameras showed a woman standing outside.
She was wearing a dark coat.
Her face was hidden.
But she left something at the gate.
A small silver necklace.
I recognized it.
It had belonged to my grandmother.
My mother screamed when she saw it.
“No.”
She picked it up.
“She found us.”
“Who?”
My mother whispered:
“Eleanor.”
My grandfather immediately ordered everyone inside.
“Lock every door.”
Julian looked at the camera.
“She wanted us to know she was here.”
“Why?”
My grandfather answered:
“Because she wants us afraid.”
Then another message appeared on the security monitor.
Someone had remotely hacked the system.
White letters appeared against a black screen.
MIDNIGHT. THE OLD CHURCH. COME ALONE.
