Chapter 39 - THE LAST OFFER

Elliot smiled.

“You always were too sentimental, brother.”

My grandfather stepped forward.

“Let them go.”

Elliot laughed.

“You still think you're in control.”

He pointed the gun at Noah.

I moved in front of my son.

“Don't.”

Elliot's eyes narrowed.

“You have something I want.”

“The trust.”

“No.”

“The evidence?”

“No.”

He smiled.

“Your grandfather's confession.”

I stared.

“What?”

“I need him to admit publicly that he created the trust illegally.”

My grandfather shook his head.

“You'll never get it.”

Elliot raised the gun.

“Then Noah dies.”

My mother screamed.

“Stop!”

Elliot looked at her.

“You should have stayed hidden.”

She stepped forward.

“You're not taking my grandson.”

Elliot laughed.

“Your grandson already belongs to me.”

“No.”

I spoke quietly.

“You're wrong.”

Everyone looked at me.

I held up the brown box.

Elliot's expression changed.

“The trust isn't inside the box.”

I smiled.

“You think that's what my grandfather hid?”

His face hardened.

“Then what is it?”

I opened the box.

Nothing.

Elliot stared.

I said:

“The box was never the key.”

My grandfather smiled for the first time.

“The box was the distraction.”

Elliot looked confused.

Then Julian pulled out his phone.

“I recorded everything.”

Elliot's face changed.

The police sirens began approaching.

My grandfather had planned everything.

May you like

Elliot raised his gun.

And fired.
