Chương 87 - Springtime in Chicago

Spring returned to Chicago with an explosion of blooming cherry blossoms and vibrant green lawns across the Vance estate grounds. The air smelled faintly of rain and freshly turned soil.
Marcus flew back from California for spring break, bringing with him exciting news regarding a collaborative research partnership between Stanford University and the Vance-Gomez Foundation aimed at providing automated medical diagnostic tools to rural health clinics across the United States.
On a warm Saturday afternoon, the family gathered on the stone terrace. Eva and Lily were busy testing out a brand-new robotic garden assistant that Marcus had helped them program, while Viktor supervised from a nearby lawn chair with a watchful, protective eye.
Damian walked out of the sliding glass doors, handing Marcus a cup of hot black coffee.
"The rural health clinic partnership is a brilliant initiative, kid," Damian commended, leaning against the stone balustrade. "You're taking the foundation's mission to a whole new level."
"Technology is only as valuable as the lives it improves," Marcus replied, taking a sip of the coffee. "That's what you taught me when you funded Lily's medical treatments in Zurich. You showed me that true strength is measured by how many people you lift up, not how many you keep down."
Down on the lawn, Eva suddenly stopped her robotics project, turned around, and looked up toward the terrace.
"Dad! Marcus!" Eva called out, waving her arms excitedly. "Come down here! The robot just planted a row of sunflowers all by itself!"

Marcus and I exchanged a warm, knowing smile. We walked down the stone steps together toward the laughter of our family. The violent underworld of the past was dead and buried, replaced by an enduring legacy of love, redemption, and unbreakable family bonds.
