Chapter 30 - Strike on the Adriatic

The midnight air along the rocky coast of the Adriatic Sea was thick with salt spray and the low, rumbling crash of dark waves against jagged cliffs. Hidden inside a secluded cove three miles from the abandoned shipyard in Split, Croatia, our tactical transport boat cut its engines, gliding silently toward a rusted concrete pier.
Inside the rear cabin of the vessel, the atmosphere was thick with tension and the metallic scent of gun oil. Viktor was conducting final radio checks with our advance scouting teams, while I methodically checked the magazine of my suppressed tactical pistol. Across from me sat Marcus, his fingers flying across the glowing screen of his secure laptop, routing satellite thermal feeds directly into our tactical HUD glasses.
"Primary perimeter breach in three minutes," Marcus whispered, his voice remarkably steady despite the adrenaline pumping through his veins. "Viktorov’s guards are clustered around the main warehouse loading docks. Their primary communications relay is housed in the second-floor administrative office."
"Good," I murmured, pulling my tactical helmet over my head and securing the chin strap. "Remember the plan: lightning strike, absolute suppression, zero hesitation. We take their digital assets, neutralize their leadership, and vanish before local authorities even realize we're here."
The boat bumped softly against the concrete pier. Viktor signaled with two fingers, and our six-man tactical team slipped over the side like shadows, moving with the silent, lethal grace of apex predators.
We hugged the rusted corrugated steel walls of the shipyard warehouse. The cold sea breeze bit through our tactical gear, but nobody flinched. I signaled the breach. Viktor placed a silent thermal charge on the side service door.
Pop.
The lock melted instantly, and we flooded into the cavernous warehouse in a synchronized rush. Viktorov’s mercenaries scrambled in absolute confusion, shouting frantic orders in Russian as flashbangs detonated with blinding white concussive flashes and deafening roars, dropping enemy combatants before they could even raise their assault rifles.
"Clear!" Viktor barked over the encrypted comms channel as the last guard crumpled unconscious against a stack of smuggled shipping containers.
"Moving to the administrative office!" I ordered, sprinting toward the metal staircase leading to the second floor.
I kicked the office door open, sweeping my pistol across the room. It was empty, save for a massive bank of heavy server towers humming with blinking blue lights and a mahogany executive desk overlooking the docks.
"Marcus, we're in," I spoke into my comms. "Get up here and lock down those servers."
Thirty seconds later, Marcus hurried through the doorway, flanked by two of our tactical guards. He slammed his laptop down onto the desk, plugged a heavy fiber-optic interface cable directly into the master terminal, and began typing at blinding speed.
"I'm in!" Marcus called out, his eyes darting across the scrolling lines of green code. "I'm bypassing Viktorov's firewall... downloading all mercenary payrolls, offshore bank accounts, and international safehouse locations!"

Suddenly, a loud, grating alarm echoed through the shipyard. The computer screens flashed a glaring crimson red.
"Boss!" Marcus yelled, his voice cracking with panic. "Viktorov just triggered an automated self-destruct script! He's wiping the servers from a remote bunker three miles away!"
