Chapter 8 - The Grand Estate Wedding

Summer arrived with a breathtaking display of warm sunshine and blooming white roses across the Vance estate grounds. The wedding of Marcus and Elena was the event of the season—not because of high-society pretense, but because it was a celebration of pure love, resilience, and community.
The ceremony took place on the manicured lawn beneath the grand oak tree where Marcus had once played with Eva years ago. The rows of white chairs were filled with close friends, brilliant scientists, foundation scholars, medical colleagues, and our beloved family members.
Viktor stood proudly as Marcus’s best man, while Eva and Lily served as the most joyful, enthusiastic flower girls in history, scattering rose petals down the grass aisle with beaming smiles.
As the string quartet played a soft, elegant melody, Elena walked down the aisle on her father's arm, looking absolutely radiant in a classic white lace gown. Marcus stood at the altar, waiting for her, his eyes shining with unshed tears of profound gratitude.
When Elena reached the altar, her father placed her hand in Marcus’s. I stood in the front row beside my daughters, my heart swelling with an overwhelming sense of peace and paternal pride.
"Do you, Marcus, take Elena to be your lawfully wedded wife?" the officiant asked clearly.
"I do," Marcus answered, his voice steady, ringing with absolute conviction across the sunlit lawn.
"And do you, Elena, take Marcus to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"I do," Elena replied, smiling radiantly.
"With the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Marcus, you may kiss the bride."
As Marcus lifted Elena’s veil and kissed her gently amidst a chorus of cheers and applause, the estate erupted into joyous celebration.
The reception that followed was held in a massive white marquee tent set up on the eastern lawn. Fine dining, heartfelt toasts, and joyous laughter echoed into the warm summer evening. When it was my turn to give a toast, I stood up tapped my glass lightly, and looked around the room at the family we had built together.
"Years ago," I began, my voice carrying across the tent with warm resonance, "a starving teenager walked through my security gates with taped-up sneakers and half a peanut butter sandwich. He didn't come with weapons, threats, or demands. He came with kindness. And in doing so, he gave my mute daughter her voice back, and he gave me back my soul."

I turned my gaze toward Marcus and Elena, raising my crystal glass high.
"Today, that same young man stands before us as a brilliant scientist, a global philanthropist, a devoted brother, and now, a wonderful husband. Marcus, you taught us all that true power isn't about making men fear your name behind iron walls. True power is love, grace, and the courage to share. To Marcus and Elena: may your life together be filled with endless joy, boundless discovery, and enduring love. Welcome to forever."
