Chapter 46 - Checkmate in the Alps

Dmitri Rostov sat behind a massive, curved glass executive desk that overlooked the breathtaking, panoramic view of Lake Zurich and the distant alpine peaks. He was a man in his mid-fifties, impeccably tailored, swirling expensive vintage scotch in a crystal tumbler. When the heavy double doors crashed open, he didn't flinch. He simply took a slow sip of his drink, turned slowly in his ergonomic leather chair, and fixed us with a cold, calculating stare.

"Damian Vance," Rostov said smoothly, his voice dripping with venomous sarcasm. "And the miraculous little hacker boy. I must admit, I didn't expect you to track us all the way across the Atlantic. I suppose old habits of playing mob boss die hard."

I walked slowly into the sprawling penthouse office, my footsteps echoing against the pristine marble floor. Viktor flanked my right side, securing the perimeter, while Marcus stood beside me, his laptop resting securely in his hands. I stopped ten feet away from Rostov’s glass desk, resting my hands casually inside my coat pockets.

"You've been busy playing cyber criminal, Dmitri," I said, my voice unnaturally calm, carrying a quiet, frozen intensity that made the Swiss financier's smug smile flicker. "Trying to siphon funds from a foundation dedicated to underprivileged children. Have you truly fallen that low?"

Rostov set his glass down on the glass desk with a sharp clink. He stood up, buttoning his suit jacket with an air of arrogant defiance. "Spare me your moral posturing, Damian. In the real world, power isn't measured by how many orphans you sponsor; it's measured by liquidity, leverage, and control. Your foundation was bleeding capital, and your predictive algorithms were ripe for acquisition. You think locking down my corporate front hurts me? I have backup accounts in three different offshore tax havens that you can't touch!"

Marcus stepped forward, a calm, confident smile curving his lips. He placed his laptop down on Rostov’s glass desk, turning the screen outward so the financier could see the glowing data streams.

"You mean those backup accounts in the Cayman Islands and the Isle of Man?" Marcus asked pleasantly. "The ones you thought were safely hidden behind triple-encrypted proxy tunnels?"

Rostov’s arrogant expression froze instantly. He stared at the screen, watching as Marcus typed a short command string, instantly displaying the exact routing numbers, account balances, and corporate registry names of Rostov’s secret offshore holdings.

"While you were busy pouring your scotch," Marcus continued smoothly, "I executed a legal asset forfeiture transfer through the Swiss Federal Banking Commission, backed by international anti-money laundering statutes. Your offshore accounts aren't just frozen, Dmitri. They've been legally seized by the international court and redirected straight into our foundation's permanent endowment fund."

Rostov’s face turned the color of ash. He grabbed the edges of his glass desk, his knuckles turning white as he stared at the screen in absolute horror. "T-That's impossible... you can't do that! That's illegal!"

"In our world, Dmitri," I said, leaning in close over the desk so he could see the cold fury burning in my eyes, "debts are always paid. You tried to wage a digital war against my family, and you just lost every single penny you owned."
