Chapter 44 - the photograph on my desk

I kept three photographs.
One of my father.
One of Leo as a little boy.
One from the gala years later.
The three of us standing together.
One morning, Leo entered my office.
He looked at the photographs.
“Which one is your favorite?”
I smiled.
“The second.”
“Me?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because you didn't know anything yet.”
He laughed.
“That's rude.”
I laughed too.
Then I looked at the third photograph.
“But this one matters most.”
“Why?”
“Because everyone in it knows the truth.”
He studied the picture.
Then he said:
“Mom?”
“Yes?”
“I don't think our family is broken anymore.”
I swallowed.
“No.”
“What is it?”
I thought for a moment.
“Different.”
He nodded.
“I like different.”
May you like
So did I.
