Chapter 35 - the vote that changed the company

The board voted to make the employee trust permanent.
I supported it.
Some shareholders didn't.
They argued that giving employees ownership diluted control.
I stood before them.
“Control is not the same as strength.”
One shareholder challenged me.
“What if employees make bad decisions?”
“Then shareholders can make bad decisions too.”
The room became quiet.
I continued.
“This company nearly collapsed because too few people had too much power and too little accountability.”
I wasn't accusing anyone.
I was stating history.
“We are not repeating it.”
The vote passed.
For the first time, ordinary employees became long-term stakeholders in the company.
Afterward, Teresa hugged me.
“You changed everything.”
I shook my head.
“No.”
I pointed toward the employees.
May you like
“They did.”
