Chapter 43 - the trust meeting

Leo was fifteen when he asked to attend a foundation meeting.
He wanted to understand the employee trust.
The directors welcomed him.
One asked:
“Why are you interested?”
Leo answered:
“Because my family lost everything when adults treated money like it belonged only to them.”
The room became quiet.
He continued.
“I want to know how you stop that from happening again.”
The directors explained the safeguards.
Independent oversight.
Annual audits.
Employee representation.
No single executive could move large amounts without review.
Leo listened carefully.
Afterward, he asked me:
“Do you think this is enough?”
“No.”
He looked surprised.
“Why?”
“Because no system is perfect.”
“Then what's the point?”
“The point is making it harder for one person's dishonesty to become everyone else's disaster.”
He nodded.
