Chapter 4 - Six Reservations

The first reservation was three months old.
The second was from a city two hours away.
The third was under Julian’s assistant’s name.
The fourth had been paid through a company account.
The fifth had been canceled.
The sixth was still active.
Leo did not read every detail aloud.
He didn’t need to.
His mother had already highlighted the important parts.
Julian stared at the screen.
“That account was for business.”
His wife looked at him.
“Then why was Chloe listed as the guest?”
Chloe’s face went pale.
Julian turned toward her.
“It wasn’t supposed to be visible.”
The words slipped out before he could stop them.
Silence.
Julian closed his eyes.
He knew immediately that he had made another mistake.
His wife folded her arms.
“Thank you.”
Julian opened his eyes.
“What?”
“You just admitted it.”
“I didn't.”
“You said it wasn't supposed to be visible.”
His wife’s voice remained calm.
“That means you knew what it was.”
Chloe stepped away.
“Julian.”
He looked at her.
She shook her head.
“I didn't know about the company account.”
Julian rubbed his forehead.
“It was temporary.”
“Temporary?”
His wife looked toward the board members.
“Then perhaps the finance department should explain what temporary means.”
One of the executives shifted uncomfortably.
Julian noticed.
He knew the man.
Marcus Reed.
Chief financial officer.
Marcus had known about several unusual reimbursements.
Julian suddenly looked at him.
Marcus looked away.
That was when Julian understood.
The problem was bigger than Chloe.
Someone had been helping him hide the expenses.
And now the phone had exposed the trail.
Leo glanced at his mother.
“Mom?”
“Yes?”
“Should I show the messages too?”
Julian immediately stepped forward.
“No.”
The word came too quickly.
Everyone noticed.
His wife looked at him.
“What messages?”
Julian said nothing.
Leo unlocked the phone.
The screen displayed a conversation between Julian and Chloe.
At first, it was romantic.
Then it became something else.
Chloe had asked Julian one question repeatedly.
“What happens to her company shares after the divorce?”
His wife read the message.
Her eyes narrowed.
Julian reached for the phone.
She stopped him.

👉 The affair suddenly looked less like a romance—and more like a plan to take something from the woman Julian had married.
