Chapter 19 - The Gala Again

Two years later, the company held another gala.
This time, the ballroom looked different.
The same crystal chandeliers.
The same marble floors.
The same warm candlelight.
But the atmosphere was lighter.
Leo was older now.
He stood beside his mother in a dark formal suit.
No trembling.
No fear.
Just confidence.
The company had survived.
More importantly, the family had found a new shape.
Julian was not at the center of the event.
He was not an executive anymore.
He had rebuilt his career slowly.
He arrived later as a guest.
He waited near the entrance.
Leo saw him.
“Dad.”
Julian smiled.
“Hey.”
Leo walked over.
They shook hands.
Then Leo laughed.
“That's weird.”
Julian laughed too.
“Very.”
His mother watched from across the room.
Julian approached her.
“Thank you for inviting me.”
“You're welcome.”
He looked around.
“It's beautiful.”
“It is.”
A pause.
“I heard the company is doing well.”
“It is.”
“I'm proud of you.”
She nodded.
“Thank you.”
There was no romance.
No attempt to rewrite history.
Just two people who had once hurt each other standing in the same room without hatred.
Leo returned.
“Dad, come look.”
He pulled Julian toward the photographs from the company's history.
One image showed the old gala.
Julian stopped.
It was the night everything had collapsed.
Leo looked at the photograph.
“I remember that.”
“So do I.”
“You were scared.”
Julian smiled.
“I was.”
“Me too.”
Julian looked at him.
“But you were brave.”
Leo shrugged.
“Mom told me what to do.”
Julian looked toward his former wife.
She smiled faintly.
The three of them stood together for a photograph.
Not as husband and wife.
Not as the family they once were.
But as three people who had survived the truth.
