Chapter 10 - THE TRAP

Vincent arrived shortly after midnight.

He walked into the library smiling.

“You wanted to see me?”

Matteo stood beside the fireplace.

“Yes.”

Vincent noticed the cameras.

His smile vanished.

On the table lay the medicine bottle, the forged documents, the brass key, and the gold ring.

Matteo said nothing.

He simply pressed a button.

A recording began.

Evelyn’s confession filled the room.

Vincent’s face collapsed.

“You betrayed me,” he whispered.

Evelyn, escorted into the room by police officers, began to cry.

“You threatened my daughter.”

Vincent turned toward Matteo.

“You have no idea what this family would have become without me.”

Matteo stepped closer.

“My family almost became murderers.”

Police officers entered.

Vincent was arrested.

Evelyn followed.

For the first time in years, Sophia was safe.

And when Emma ran into Matteo’s arms the next morning, clutching his repaired shirt, he realized something unexpected.

The little girl had not just saved her mother.

She had brought the truth back into his house.

And this time, he would protect both of them.
