Chapter 30 - THE LITTLE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE

Twenty years after that rainy afternoon, Matteo still remembered every detail.

The torn shirt.

The crooked stitches.

The bleeding fingertip.

The frightened little girl whispering, “Please don't fire Mama.”

He remembered walking into Sophia's room.

He remembered the medicine bottle.

He remembered the moment he realized someone inside his home was slowly killing an innocent woman.

But most of all, he remembered what happened afterward.

A family was broken.

Then rebuilt.

A child was terrified.

Then became fearless.

A house was poisoned by secrets.

Then filled with laughter.

That evening, Emma stood beside him in the garden with her own daughter.

The little girl held a plastic sewing needle and tried to mend a piece of cloth.

Matteo laughed.

“Not again.”

Emma smiled.

“She likes helping.”

He looked at the tiny child.

Then at Emma.

Then at Sophia, who was watching them from the porch.

His eyes filled with tears.

The greatest miracle of his life had never been money, power, or revenge.

It had been a frightened three-year-old who refused to let her mother disappear.

The child who once stitched a torn shirt had unknowingly stitched an entire family back together.

And this time, there was nothing left to fear.
