Chapter 14 - THE LETTER
A week later, Matteo discovered a sealed envelope hidden inside his father's old desk.
The handwriting was unmistakable.
His father's.
Matteo opened it with shaking fingers.
“My son, if you are reading this, I failed to protect you from the people closest to us.”
He stopped breathing.
The letter explained that his father had discovered Vincent stealing millions from the family business.
He had intended to expose him.
But there was more.
Vincent had not acted alone.
Someone else inside the estate had helped him.
Someone who remained unnamed.
Matteo read faster.
Then he reached the final paragraph.
“Trust Sophia. She knows who was there.”
Matteo immediately found her.
Sophia read the letter with tears running down her cheeks.
“There was another person,” she whispered.
“Who?”
She closed her eyes.
“I was afraid to remember.”
Matteo waited.
Then she whispered a name.
“Your father's attorney.”
Matteo's blood turned cold.
