He found Emma near the staircase.
A man in black was dragging her toward the rear door.
Matteo attacked without hesitation.
The struggle slammed into the wall.
The intruder struck him across the face, but Matteo retaliated harder.
Within seconds, the man was on the floor.
Emma was crying.
“Mister Matteo!”
He pulled her into his arms.
“Are you hurt?”
She shook her head.
The attacker escaped through a shattered window, leaving one thing behind.
A gold ring.
Matteo picked it up.
His heart stopped.
The same symbol appeared on the ring he had found in an old photograph of his uncle Vincent.
