The city lights twinkled like a million diamond chips set into black velvet as night fully embraced Chicago. Inside the penthouse, the world narrowed down to the quiet space between them. There were no more boardrooms to dominate, no more ledgers to audit, and no more enemies to hunt.
Serena turned gently in Dante's arms, facing him completely. She looked up into his dark, intense eyes—eyes that had seen the worst of humanity, yet held only absolute devotion for her.
"We built an empire out of ash and blood," Serena whispered, her hands resting flat against the crisp fabric of his shirt, right over his heart. "And we survived every single thing the city threw at us."
