Chapter 32 - The Unbroken Circle

The private dining room of the Moretti estate glowed with the warm, amber light of a hundred candles as Serena and Dante sat across from each other at the heavy oak table. There were no guests, no politicians, no syndicate bosses—just the two of them, celebrating an anniversary that felt like both a lifetime and a single heartbeat.
The table was set with simple, exquisite dishes: artisanal bread, roasted root vegetables, and the signature tomato and basil reduction that had started it all. Serena poured two cups of dark-roast coffee, sliding one across the polished wood toward Dante with a playful, knowing glint in her eyes.
Dante picked up the ceramic mug, wrapped his fingers around it, and took a slow, deliberate sip. The flavors were rich, robust, and impeccably balanced.
"Well?" Serena asked, raising an eyebrow with mock challenge. "How is it?"
"Terrible," Dante lied straight-faced, his eyes dancing with amusement. "Far too refined. Not nearly enough chaos."
"And yet," Serena retorted softly, leaning forward with a bright, triumphant smile, "you're drinking every single drop."
"Every single drop," Dante agreed, setting the mug down and standing up from his chair. He walked around the table, taking her hand and pulling her gently to her feet, drawing her flush against his chest as the soft strains of a classical waltz drifted from the estate’s integrated sound system.

Serena rested her hands on his shoulders, looking up into his piercing blue eyes with a deep, unshakable peace. "Do you ever regret it, Dante? Walking away from the violence, the power, the old life?"
Dante pulled her closer, his arms wrapping securely around her waist as they began to move in slow, effortless circles across the hardwood floor. "I never walked away from power, Serena," he whispered softly against her hair. "I just finally figured out who was holding the crown."
