Chapter 45 - The Skyline at Dusk

By late afternoon, they returned to the penthouse suite in downtown Chicago, watching as the sun began its descent behind the towering glass-and-steel canyons of the financial district. The sky turned into a breathtaking masterpiece of bruised purple, slate grey, and liquid gold.
Serena stood at the center of the room, wearing a simple silk gown of midnight blue, holding a glass of crisp sparkling water as she looked out over the skyline. The city hummed below them like a living, breathing testament to human resilience and absolute transformation.
Dante stood right behind her, his arms wrapped securely around her waist, his chin resting comfortably on her shoulder as his chest rose and fell in a steady, calming rhythm.
"What are you thinking about?" Dante murmured softly, his voice a low vibration against her back.

"It wasn't a choice made in the dark, Serena," Dante corrected quietly, his arms tightening around her with absolute, unyielding devotion. "It was the moment the light finally broke through."
