Chapter 31 - The Spring of Absolute Dominion
When the snow finally melted from the streets of Chicago, yielding to the bright, vibrant green of a new spring, the city felt entirely transformed. The air smelled of damp earth, blooming cherry blossoms, and the clean, industrial hum of a modernized metropolis operating at peak efficiency.
Standing on the outdoor terrace of the Moretti Tower executive suite, Serena looked out over the sprawling expanse of the Loop. Below her, electric commuter trains glided silently along elevated tracks, container ships moved with clockwork precision through the modernized port terminals, and thousands of students walked across the manicured lawns of the foundation's vocational academies.
Dante walked out onto the terrace, handing her a crystal glass of sparkling water before stepping up beside her at the glass railing. His dark suit was immaculate, his blue eyes sharp and clear as he surveyed the kingdom they had claimed and reshaped.
"The federal infrastructure committee just nominated our logistics model as the national standard for municipal modernization," Dante stated, a hint of deep pride underlying his steady voice. "They want you to keynote the national summit in Washington next month."
Serena took a sip of the sparkling water, turning her head to look at him with a calm, unreadable expression. "And what did you tell them?"
"I told them my schedule is completely open, provided I'm allowed to travel as your primary security detail," Dante replied smoothly, a faint, wicked smirk playing on his lips.

"Watch me," Dante murmured, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her firmly against his side as the warm spring wind ruffled their hair. "I spent too many years letting you slip into the background while I fought wars in the dark. From now on, wherever you go, I am right beside you."
