Chapter 25 - The Eternal Horizon

Midnight arrived with a gentle summer breeze sweeping off the surface of Lake Michigan, carrying the faint, distant sounds of the city below. From the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the Moretti penthouse, Chicago glittered like an infinite sea of stars—a living, breathing metropolis of light, commerce, and relentless human ambition.
Serena stood at the center of the room, holding a crystal glass of sparkling water, looking out over the skyline she had helped reshape. Dante stood right behind her, his arms wrapped securely around her waist, his chin resting comfortably on her shoulder as his chest rose and fall in steady, calming rhythm.
"Do you ever think about where we'd be if you hadn't walked into the kitchen that night?" Dante murmured softly, his voice a low vibration against her back.
Serena turned her head slightly, pressing her cheek against his temple as she stared out at the infinite horizon. "I don't need to think about it, Dante. Because the past is just a ghost story we stopped being afraid of."
"And what about the future?" Dante asked, a hint of wonder in his deep voice.

Serena raised her glass slightly, watching the moonlight catch the crystal surface as the city hummed peacefully beneath their feet. "The future is just another blank page," she whispered, her voice steady, confident, and utterly unyielding. "And we are the ones holding the pen."
Dante tightened his grip around her, pulling her infinitesimally closer as the orchestra of the city played on beneath them—a grand, sweeping waltz of a life built not on ash and blood, but on a choice made in the dark when everyone else walked away, standing together at the top of the world.
