Chapter 7 - The Purge Begins

Before Marcus’s fingers could even touch the grip of his pistol, Lucas moved with terrifying speed.
He slammed Marcus against the oak bookshelf, pinning the traitor by his throat.
Marcus gasped for air, his feet kicking wildly as Lucas lifted him inches off the ground.
"You sent them after a civilian," Lucas snarled, his voice vibrating with pure hatred.
"You sent them after the woman I loved."
"Lucas... please..." Marcus choked out, his face turning a deep shade of purple.
"The Volkovs... they promised me... half the city."
Lucas’s grip tightened, crushing the cartilage in Marcus’s throat.
"You can have all of hell instead."
With a sickening crunch, Lucas twisted his wrist, breaking Marcus’s neck instantly.
The traitor’s body went limp, dropping to the floor like a sack of broken bones.
Lucas stood over the corpse, straightening his cuffs, his breathing completely even.
Vance entered the study a moment later, glancing at the body on the floor without a hint of surprise.
"Clean this up," Lucas ordered.
"And then assemble every hitter we have on the payroll."
Vance nodded. "All of them, boss?"
"Every single one," Lucas confirmed.
"Tonight, the Volkov Bratva ceases to exist in Chicago."
"I want their warehouses burned."
"I want their lieutenants put in the ground."
"I want their boss, Sergei, brought to me alive."
Vance grinned, a predatory smile crossing his scarred face.
"It’s going to be a bloodbath, Lucas."
"The police won't be able to ignore this."
Lucas walked over to his safe, punching in the combination and pulling out a heavy, suppressed tactical rifle.
"I own the police," Lucas reminded him coldly.
"Tonight, I am shutting down the city."
"No sirens, no interference."
He loaded a magazine into the weapon, the metallic click echoing loudly in the silent study.
"They brought war to my family."
"I am bringing the apocalypse to theirs."
Before he left, Lucas walked up to the guest room one last time.
Lily was still sleeping peacefully, completely unaware of the violence being unleashed in her name.

Lucas kissed her forehead gently.
"I'll be right back, little wolf," he whispered.
