Chapter 18 - The Coronation

Lucas pulled a white silk handkerchief from his pocket, methodically wiping his hands. He turned his gaze to the four remaining heads of the Midwest Commission. "Victor Sterling is dead," Lucas announced. "His assets belong to the Rourke Syndicate. His territory is mine. If anyone in this room has an objection, you can join him on the floor." Carmine, the oldest boss, looked from Sterling’s corpse to Lucas, and then down to the seven-year-old girl holding Lucas's hand. Carmine slowly bowed his head. "No objections, King Rourke," Carmine rasped. One by one, the most dangerous men in the Midwest bowed their heads in submission. Lucas had proven that his love for his daughter hadn't made him weak; it had made him completely and utterly unstoppable. He now had something worth killing for, and something worth dying for. Lucas looked down at Lily. "Are you scared?" he asked her quietly. "No," she replied, her small hand gripping his tightly. "Wolves aren't scared of sheep." Lucas smiled, a genuine, warm smile that belonged only to her. "Let’s go, little wolf."
