Chapter 10 - What Remains

Three weeks later.

The city of Chicago was quiet.

The criminal underworld had been entirely restructured, purged of anyone who dared challenge the Rourke Syndicate.

But Lucas was no longer the heartless king he used to be.

He stood in a quiet, green cemetery in the suburbs, wearing a simple black suit.

Beside him stood Lily, wearing a beautiful new black coat, holding a bouquet of yellow daisies.

They stood in front of a freshly carved marble headstone that read: Hannah Bennett. Beloved Mother.

Lucas reached down and gently placed his hand on Lily’s shoulder.

"She was the bravest woman I ever met," Lucas said quietly.

"She kept you safe."

Lily nodded, wiping a tear from her eye.

She stepped forward and placed the daisies on the grave.

Then, she reached into her pocket and pulled out the battered black bank card.

She looked at it for a long moment, then placed it gently beneath the flowers.

Lucas raised an eyebrow.

"You don't want to keep that?" he asked.

"It holds a lot of money, Lily."

She looked up at him, her emerald eyes bright and clear in the morning sun.

"I went to the bank to find out what was left," Lily said softly.

"I don't need the card anymore."

She reached out and took his large, scarred hand, holding it tightly.

"Because I found what's left," she smiled.

"I found you."

Lucas felt a lump form in his throat, a profound sense of peace washing over his battered soul.

He had spent his whole life building an empire of shadows, but this little girl was his true legacy.

"Come on, little wolf," Lucas said, smiling back at her.

"Let's go home."

They walked away from the grave together, leaving the black card behind.

The Rourke king had finally found his heart, and the city of Chicago belonged to them both.
