Chapter 19 - The Legacy

A week later, the Cicero hospital received an anonymous donation of fifty million dollars. A new pediatric wing was commissioned, named the Hannah Bennett Memorial Ward. Lucas stood across the street, watching the construction crews break ground. The rain was falling softly, but he held a large black umbrella over Lily. "Mommy would have liked that," Lily said, holding a warm cup of cocoa. "She would have told me it was too flashy," Lucas chuckled softly. "She always hated it when I showed off." Lily laughed, a bright, beautiful sound that cut through the gloom of the city. Lucas looked down at her. In just six months, she had healed parts of his soul he thought were permanently dead. He was still a ruthless mob boss, still a monster to his enemies. But to her, he was just Dad. Vance pulled the armored SUV up to the curb, rolling down the window. "Where to, boss?" Vance asked. "We have a meeting with the port union at three," Lucas said, checking his watch. "But right now? We're going to get ice cream." Vance grinned, his scarred face softening. "Yes, sir."
