Chapter 82 - The Culinary Traditions of the Manor

By late afternoon, the massive industrial kitchen of the Moretti estate was a whirlwind of activity, savory aromas, and family banter. Vincent Moretti stood at the center island wearing an oversized white chef’s apron, aggressively seasoning a massive leg of lamb with rosemary, garlic, and cracked black pepper while shouting instructions across the room.
"Maya, hand me the extra-virgin olive oil from the pantry shelf!" Vincent called out over the sound of classical music playing softly from the kitchen radio. "If we don't sear the fat cap properly before it goes into the oven, the entire culinary integrity of tonight's feast is compromised!"
Maya walked in from the pantry holding a large bottle of olive oil, rolling her eyes with affectionate amusement. She handed it to him, leaning against the marble counter. "Vincent, darling, you're roasting a lamb for family, not presenting a Michelin-starred tasting menu to a panel of French food critics. Relax."
"I am completely relaxed," Vincent insisted, though he was currently whisking a red wine reduction with the fierce intensity of a military tactician. "I just demand excellence in my kitchen, especially when my mother is evaluating my seasoning."
From her comfortable seat near the kitchen nook, Ruth Moretti looked up from her knitting needles, offering a dry, knowing smile. "Don't look at me, Vincent. As long as the meat isn't burnt to charcoal and there's enough garlic to ward off medieval plagues, I won't complain."
Noah, who had somehow managed to sneak a handful of roasted pine nuts from the prep station, leaned against the refrigerator. "Scientifically speaking, Grandma, garlic contains allicin, which has mild antimicrobial properties, but it won't do much against medieval plagues unless combined with proper sanitation protocols."
"Eat your pine nuts and stay out of the kitchen logistics, Noah," Vincent warned good-naturedly, pointing a wooden spoon at him.
Damien and Ellie walked into the kitchen just then, stepping right into the lively fray. Ellie immediately tied an apron around her waist and began chopping fresh vegetables for the side dishes, while Damien poured himself a glass of sparkling water, leaning against the counter to observe the domestic chaos.
"Need backup, Dad?" Damien asked with a grin.

"Only if you think you can manage the oven temperature better than your mother’s intuition," Vincent retorted, smiling warmly at his son.
The kitchen was alive with warmth, laughter, and the rich, comforting aromas of slow-roasted herbs and baking bread. It was the absolute antithesis of the cold, calculating syndicate war rooms of the past. Here, there was no hostility, no betrayal, and no fear—only the sacred, unbreakable bond of a family that had survived the worst of humanity and built a sanctuary of unconditional love.
