Chapter 39 - The Dawn of Forever

The morning sun broke over Lake Michigan with a brilliant, blinding burst of amber and gold, painting the sky in vibrant streaks of pink and violet. The ocean waters below the estate cliffs churned with gentle, rhythmic waves, kissing the shoreline with a soothing, hypnotic melody.
Inside the master suite, sunlight spilled across the hardwood floor, warming the heavy Persian rugs and creeping slowly up the edge of the bed.
Ellie stirred, her eyes fluttering open as she felt the warm, steady weight of Damien’s arm draped possessively over her waist. She smiled, breathing in the clean scent of cedar, coffee, and morning air.
Downstairs, the faint, joyful sound of Noah laughing echoed up through the vaulted stairwell, followed by the sound of footsteps and the clinking of breakfast plates.
Damien opened his eyes, the dark irises catching the morning light as he looked down at Ellie with an expression of such pure, unfiltered devotion that it took her breath away all over again.
"Good morning, Mrs. Moretti," Damien murmured, his voice thick with sleep and absolute contentment.
"Good morning, Mr. Moretti," Ellie replied, sliding her hand up his chest to cup his jaw, tracing the faint line of his beard. "Are you planning to stay in bed all day, or do we have an empire to run?"
Damien let out a rich, rumbling laugh, pulling her flush against him so that there was not a single inch of space left between their bodies.
"The empire can wait," Damien whispered against her lips, his dark eyes shining with an intensity that promised a lifetime of unyielding love. "Right now, I have the only thing that ever truly mattered."

"Forever, Damien," she whispered, leaning up to meet his lips in a tender, lingering kiss.
"Forever, Ellie," he answered softly, as the brilliant golden light of their new beginning flooded the room, sealing their story in a peace that nothing in this world could ever break.
