Chapter 39 - Dawn Over the Kingdom

Julian spun around, his weapon raised, trembling slightly as he found himself staring directly down the barrel of Luke’s sidearm. The years of plotting, of surviving in the frozen margins of the world, had led to this exact moment—and Julian realized with terrifying clarity that he had never stood a chance.
"You should have killed me in Boston," Julian spat, blood trickling from a cut on his forehead.
"I did," Luke replied coldly, his finger resting lightly on the trigger. "You just forgot to stay dead."
With a sudden, violent motion, Luke fired—not at Julian’s chest, but directly through the stock of Julian's rifle, shattering the weapon into splinters and sending it flying from his hands. Before Julian could recover, Vance and two enforcers moved in, slamming him against the concrete and disarming him completely.
Julian thrashed, cursing into the dirt, but his voice was drowned out by the rising wail of sirens as municipal authorities—paid off and managed by the syndicate's untouchable legal network—arrived to sweep away the remnants of the threat.
Luke lowered his weapon, the adrenaline slowly fading from his veins as he exhaled a long, steady breath. He turned and looked up at the catwalk. Elena was standing there, the barrel of her rifle resting against her shoulder as she looked down at him with a proud, reassuring smile.

An hour later, the railyard was quiet once more. The private helicopter lifted off from the tarmac, carrying them away from the cold city streets and back toward the endless emerald hills of Westchester.
As the first golden rays of dawn began to pierce the crisp autumn horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of amber and violet, Luke pulled Elena close against his side in the leather cabin of the chopper. The shadows of the past had finally been swept away for good. The blood debts were paid, the kingdom was secure, and as the Westchester estate came into view below them, Luke smiled, ready for whatever peaceful chapter of life came next.
