Chapter 19 - The Sound of Silence

Downstairs in the secure subterranean parking garage of St. Catherine’s, Viktor stood beside the open door of the armored black SUV, reviewing a final encrypted data packet on his ruggedized tactical tablet. The screen displayed real-time satellite feeds of Moretti’s former strongholds across Brooklyn, Queens, and the DUMBO waterfront.

Every single red dot representing hostile operatives had vanished. Some had blinked out permanently in the ashes of the dry docks; the rest were currently flashing rapidly near the Pennsylvania state line, fleeing in abject panic from the wrath of the Mercer syndicate.

Viktor tapped his earpiece, opening a secure channel to Leo, who was currently stationed at the primary command node on 11th Avenue.

"Status report, Leo," Viktor commanded quietly, his breath forming white clouds in the crisp morning air.

"Absolute ghost town, Vik," Leo’s voice came back over the encrypted frequency, laced with cold satisfaction. "Moretti’s lieutenants didn't even pack their bags; they just abandoned the stash houses and took off running. The NYPD is treating the dry docks as an 'unidentified industrial accident.' Mayor's office hasn't even made a statement. Total lockdown of the narrative."

"Good," Viktor said, locking the tablet and sliding it into his tactical vest. "Keep the perimeter at the hospital tight for another twenty-four hours. I don't want a single stray journalist, cop, or corporate leech within two blocks of that maternity wing. The Boss needs absolute quiet."

"Understood. Mercer enforcers are rotating shifts every four hours. Nobody gets past us," Leo confirmed before clicking off.

Viktor closed the SUV door with a heavy, satisfying thud that echoed off the concrete pillars. He looked up toward the third-floor windows of the hospital, spotting the faint outline of the drawn blinds of Room 347. For months, the syndicate had been bleeding from a dozen internal and external wounds, torn apart by traitors, corporate spies, and Moretti’s relentless siege. Now, the machine was repaired. The gears were locked, greased, and turning with terrifying, unyielding efficiency.

Luke had reclaimed his crown not by compromise, but by absolute annihilation. And Viktor knew, with the cold certainty of a soldier who had bled for his commander through a dozen wars, that nobody would ever dare challenge the Mercer throne again.
