Chapter 5 - The Gilded Cage

Chloe's mother was safely transferred to a luxury private rehabilitation center the very next morning.

With her mind finally at ease, Chloe packed her few belongings and entered the world of Tariq Al-Farsi.

His estate was not just a house; it was a sprawling fortress overlooking the ocean, surrounded by high walls and armed security.

She was led into a grand foyer dripping with marble and gold, feeling entirely out of place in her simple jeans and sweater.

"Miss Chloe, please follow me," an elderly housekeeper said kindly, leading her up a sweeping staircase.

She was taken to a massive bedroom suite, connected directly to a brightly colored children's room.

Inside, sitting silently on a window seat, was a tiny five-year-old girl named Samira.

The child hadn't spoken a single word since her parents died in a tragic accident six months ago.

Tariq stood in the doorway, his usually hardened features softening just a fraction as he looked at his niece.

"She refuses to eat, and she has night terrors," Tariq explained quietly, the vulnerability in his voice shocking Chloe.

Chloe didn't say a word to the billionaire; she simply walked over to the child and sat on the floor, making herself smaller.

She didn't push. She just pulled out a small, colorful pop-up book from her canvas bag and started reading aloud.

For the first time in half a year, Samira turned her head and looked at someone with interest.

Tariq watched from the doorway, a strange, unfamiliar tightness gripping his chest.
