The peace they had built over the past year was a beautiful, fragile glass house.
Chloe stood on the balcony of their penthouse, looking out over the glittering city skyline.
She was Mrs. Al-Farsi now, but she still felt like the same pediatric nurse who just wanted to heal people.
Tariq wrapped his strong arms around her waist, pressing a soft kiss to her bare shoulder.
Everything felt perfect, but Tariqâs phone ringing at midnight shattered the illusion.
He answered it with a sharp, commanding tone, his entire body suddenly going rigid.
Chloe watched the warmth drain from her husbandâs face, replaced by the terrifying, cold tycoon she had met on the airplane.
"Assemble the security team and lock down the estate," Tariq ordered the person on the other end.
He hung up, turning to Chloe with dark, unreadable eyes.
"What is it?" she asked, her heart suddenly pounding against her ribs.
"The investigation into my brother's crash," Tariq said softly, his voice vibrating with barely contained rage.
"They found evidence of tampering in the engine of the car."
Chloe gasped, bringing a hand to her mouth.
