Chapter 14 - The Hidden Ledger

That night, sleep was completely impossible.
Tariq paced the length of their bedroom, a glass of scotch untouched on the nightstand.
Chloe sat on the edge of the bed, her mind racing through every detail she knew about Tariq's family.
"Why does he want her so badly?" Chloe asked softly. "He has never shown interest in Samira before."
Tariq stopped pacing, dragging a hand through his dark hair.
"My brother left a trust fund for Samira," Tariq explained, his voice heavy with exhaustion.
"But it wasn't just money. It was voting shares in the global syndicate."
Chloeâs eyes widened as the pieces fell into place.
"If Malik gets custody, he controls her shares," she realized.
"Exactly," Tariq nodded. "And with those shares, he can outvote me and take over the entire Al-Farsi empire."
Chloe stood up, walking over to her formidable husband and taking his hands in hers.
"We have to prove he tampered with the car," she said firmly.
Tariq looked down at her, amazed once again by the bravery of the woman he married.
"My investigators are trying, but Malik is a ghost. He leaves no paper trail."

Chloe frowned, remembering something Samira had clutched onto when she first arrived.
"Wait," Chloe breathed out. "Samira's motherâs diary. The one she hid inside her teddy bear."
