Chapter 67 - The Horizon Unbound

The following morning broke with a brilliant, cloudless sky that stretched from the Atlantic coast all the way across the rolling hills of Maryland.

In the penthouse office, the morning routine felt like a well-choreographed dance born of years of partnership. Harper sat at her desk reviewing international trade agreements while I coordinated with our regional logistics directors across the Mid-Atlantic corridor.

There were no midnight alerts, no cryptic warnings, no shadow wars to fight. The world outside our windows moved with the steady, predictable hum of legitimate commerce and uninterrupted peace.

Yet, as I looked across the room at Harper—her dark hair catching the golden morning light, her face composed and radiant with quiet strength—I knew that the true victory wasn't the empire we had secured or the syndicates we had dismantled.

It was the fact that we had found each other in the darkest corner of Baltimore’s underworld and built a life of absolute light.

She looked up from her screen, catching my gaze across the spacious office, and offered a soft, knowing smile that made every battle, every risk, and every sacrifice entirely worthwhile.

“What are you thinking about?” she asked, setting her tablet down.

I stood up from my desk, walked across the polished wood floor, and extended my hand to her.

“I was thinking,” I said, pulling her gently to her feet, “that we have an evening free, no board meetings, no auditing reports, and a city waiting for us outside.”

Her eyes lit up with playful defiance. “Are you asking me out on a date, Mr. Moretti?”

“I am,” I replied, pulling her close against my chest. “And this time, I promise you won't have to worry about anyone planting anything under our table.”

May you like

Harper laughed, wrapping her arms securely around my neck as she pressed her lips to mine.

“Good,” she whispered against my mouth. “Because I’d much rather focus entirely on you.”
