Chapter 41 - The Interrogation in the Rain

By the time Ronan’s black SUV tore up the gravel driveway twenty minutes later, the three captured intruders had already been stripped of their tactical gear, zip-tied at the wrists, and dragged down into the stone-walled courtyard where a cold autumn rain had begun to pelt the cobblestones.

Ronan strode out of the vehicle, his trench coat flapped dramatically in the wind, his expression carved from absolute, frozen granite.

He didn't yell. He walked straight up to the lead intruder—a scarred mercenary with a brutal tattoo across his throat—grabbed him by the collar, and slammed him hard against the damp stone wall.

“Who sent you?” Ronan demanded, his voice dropping into that terrifying, lethal whisper that made even the enforcers step back. “Give me a name, or you won't live to see the sunrise.”

The mercenary spat a wad of blood onto the wet cobblestones, laughing weakly. “You... you think we’re the only ones, Cain? Vance sends his regards. You can lock down the gates all you want, but a ghost always finds a way inside.”

Hearing that name—Vance—sent a cold jolt straight down my spine.

I stepped out from the covered walkway, pulling my trench coat tighter around me, walking right up to the captive mercenary.

“David Vance is dead,” I stated coldly, looking him dead in the eyes. “His death certificate was processed in Croatia.”

“Paper is easy to forge when you have money, Mrs. Cain,” the mercenary sneered, blood staining his teeth. “The boss is alive. And he doesn't want your money or your ports anymore. He wants the little girl.”

Before the mercenary could finish his sentence, Ronan’s fist connected with his jaw with a sickening crack, rendering the man unconscious instantly. Ronan turned around, his stormy gray eyes burning with a terrifying, primal fury.

“Get the Gulfstream prepped,” Ronan ordered his head enforcer, his voice shaking with restrained rage. “We’re not waiting for them to come to us this time. We’re hunting down David Vance, and we’re going to skin him alive.”
