Chapter 30 - The Zagreb Infiltration

The cold autumn rain of the Balkans swept sideways across the concrete runway of a private airfield outside Zagreb, blurring the lights of our chartered Gulfstream as it touched down with a soft, sliding thud.
Within minutes of landing, two matte-black SUVs with local diplomatic plates—secured by our Eastern European syndicate contacts—skidded to a halt beside the aircraft staircase.
Seated inside the lead vehicle were Ronan, myself, and four of Raven Hill’s most lethal combat veterans, operating under total radio silence.
The target was a sprawling, fortified stone villa perched on a jagged cliff overlooking the Adriatic Sea, surrounded by twelve-foot security walls, motion sensors, and at least a dozen armed mercenaries guarding David Vance’s high-tech server room.
As our SUV crept slowly along the winding coastal road, cutting its headlights to blend into the pitch-black night, Ronan pulled out a digital tactical map on his ruggedized tablet.
“Vance is running a skeleton crew,” Ronan whispered, the glow of the screen illuminating the harsh, sharp angles of his face. “Primary security is concentrated around the main courtyard gates. But there’s a vulnerable drainage culvert running beneath the northern sea-cliff that feeds directly into the basement server room.”
I leaned in, tracing the glowing blue line on the map with my finger. “That’s our entry point. I can patch my laptop directly into their master router while you and the boys neutralize the courtyard guards.”
Ronan reached out, his gloved hand gently catching my chin, forcing me to look up into his eyes. His gaze was burning with an intense, terrifying mixture of fierce pride and deep, abiding love.
“When we breach that room, Thea, you stay behind me,” Ronan commanded quietly. “No exceptions. No heroics.”
“I’m not a hero, Ronan,” I whispered back, a fierce, confident smile curving my lips. “I’m an auditor. And I’m here to balance the books.”

The SUV rolled to a silent stop in a thick stand of pine trees just fifty yards from the cliff’s edge.
The rain poured down around us, washing away the silence of the night, as the final battle for the soul of the Cain empire officially began.
