Chương 15 - The Syndicate’s New QueenThree weeks later, the ash had officially settled over the Cain empire.

The transition of power was swift, ruthless, and entirely absolute. With Uncle Victor exiled to a damp jungle in South America, Magistrate Vance serving a life sentence in a federal penitentiary, and the corrupt municipal judges purged from the payroll, Raven Hill stood taller and more terrifyingly secure than ever before.

The Ashport harbor—our primary shipping lanes—hummed with 24-hour activity. Container ships bearing the Cain Logistics crest sailed in and out of the deep-water piers unmolested, supervised by a new generation of loyal captains who answered directly to Ronan.

Inside the grand estate, the dark, oppressive atmosphere of a mausoleum had been replaced by something resembling a real home.

In the sunlit conservatory overlooking the rolling manicured lawns, six-year-old Poppy sat at a polished mahogany table, happily finger-painting a watercolor landscape under the doting supervision of Evelyn Cain, who laughed aloud—a bright, ringing sound that hadn't been heard within these walls in decades.

I stood on the second-floor balcony, leaning my forearms against the wrought-iron railing while sipping a cup of hot green tea.

Footsteps approached from behind, steady and unhurried. Strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me flush against a warm, solid chest as Ronan rested his chin comfortably on my shoulder.

“You’re staring at the iron gates again,” Ronan murmured into my hair, his breath warm against my neck.

“I’m just making sure they’re still locked,” I smiled, leaning back against him, letting the tension bleed out of my shoulders.

“Nothing gets in here unless I say so,” Ronan reminded me, his grip tightening securely around my waist. “Especially the past.”

Down on the lawn below, a black luxury sedan pulled up to the main steps, and two senior capos stepped out, carrying heavy leather briefcases filled with weekly port audit reports. They took one look up at the balcony where the mafia boss and his new queen stood side by side, bowed respectfully, and hurried inside through the service entrance.

Life in Ashport was dangerous, complicated, and soaked in blood and iron. But as I looked up into Ronan’s storm-gray eyes, I knew one thing with absolute certainty:

The storm had finally passed, and we were the ones holding the keys to the kingdom.
