Chapter 34 - The Sunset Foundation
As afternoon faded into evening, their car brought them back toward the downtown district, stopping in front of the newly completed Moretti Foundation Community Literacy Center on 4th Street.
The building was modern, welcoming, and illuminated by warm interior lights that spilled out through wide glass windows onto the bustling sidewalk. Children and families were streaming through the doors for evening tutoring programs and computer literacy classes.
Maya and Ethan stood quietly on the sidewalk across the street, watching the vibrant activity inside.
“Look at it, Dominic,” Maya whispered softly, her hand slipping into his. “Seven months ago, this space was an abandoned warehouse tied up in a dozen corrupt shell companies.”
“And now it’s a sanctuary,” Ethan finished for her, looking down at her with an expression of profound, quiet pride. “Because you refused to let the past define what we could build out of the ashes.”
