The morning air in downtown Chicago was crisp, carrying the unmistakable scent of autumn leaves and wet pavement, but inside the executive suite of the Obsidian Corporation, the atmosphere was warm and vibrant.
Maya sat at the center of the mahogany conference table, her laptop open, reviewing the final structural proposals for the new community literacy centers funded entirely by the Moretti Foundation. Beside her, Ethan leaned over her shoulder, his arm resting casually on the back of her chair as he scanned the architectural blueprints.
“You’ve approved funding for three new branches in the South Side districts,” Ethan noted, a hint of approval in his deep voice. “At this rate, the city council is going to run out of streets to name after you.”

Ethan chuckled, pressing a soft kiss to the temple of her hair. “Audit me all you want, Madame Auditor. Every asset I own is already indexed under your name.”
