Chapter 17 - Shadows in the Sublevel

Three floors beneath the executive suites, far away from the sunlit boardrooms and corporate glass facades, the subterranean vaults of the Obsidian Corporation remained a sanctuary of cold stone, reinforced steel, and absolute security.

Silas stood before a massive digital wall monitor displaying the perimeter security grid of every property under Obsidian control. Next to him stood two junior tactical operatives, reviewing the shift logs for the northern cargo docks.

“Everything secure on the waterfront?” Silas asked, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that commanded instant obedience.

“All biometric gates are locked, Commander,” one operative replied, tapping a touchscreen console. “The municipal drainage conduits that Miss Vance flagged last month have been reinforced with double-layered titanium mesh. Not even a rat could squeeze through into warehouse sector four.”

Silas nodded slowly, a rare, grim smile touching the corner of his scarred mouth. When Maya Vance had first joined the organization, the old guard had looked at her as an outsider—a civilian accountant who didn't understand the violent realities of the syndicate underworld.

Now, every single enforcer, capo, and security operative in the organization knew a fundamental truth: crossing Dominic Moretti was dangerous, but crossing his chief auditor was a guaranteed ticket to federal prison or financial oblivion.

“Keep the perimeter tight,” Silas instructed, turning away from the monitor and adjusting his jacket holster. “Mr. and Mrs. Moretti are hosting the annual corporate charity gala tonight. I don't want a single glitch—digital or physical—anywhere near this building.”
