Chapter 5 - The Awakening

Lorenzo’s grip was shockingly strong for a man who had not moved in nearly two months.
He twisted the assassin’s wrist backward until a sickening crack echoed through the room.
The gun clattered to the floor, sliding under the heavy hospital bed.
The assassin yelled and threw a clumsy punch, but Lorenzo used the man’s momentum against him.
He pulled the attacker forward, smashing his forehead directly into the solid metal bedframe.
The massive man crumpled to the floor, completely unconscious.
Lorenzo fell back onto his pillows, gasping for air as a cold sweat broke out across his pale skin.
Elena rushed to the bedside, quickly adjusting the remaining IV lines to stabilize his violently spiking heart rate.
Clara picked herself up from the floor, wiping a smear of blood from her bruised cheek.
Lorenzo turned his head weakly, his dark eyes locking onto Clara with intense calculation.
He whispered in a gravelly voice that she was the woman whose daughter sang about sunshine.
Clara was stunned that he remembered the song through the depths of his forced coma.
Lorenzo commanded Elena to remove all the IV tubes immediately.
He stated that if he stayed in this bed for another hour, Giorgio would ensure he never left it.
Elena frantically began pulling the needles, warning him that his muscles would not support his own weight.
Lorenzo ignored her, swinging his legs over the side of the bed with agonizing slowness.
He told Clara to grab the assassin’s gun from under the bed.
Clara hesitated, having never held a firearm in her entire life.
She reached under the bed, her fingers closing around the cold, heavy metal of the pistol.
Just as she stood up with the weapon, the heavy oak door of the bedroom rattled violently.

Someone was trying to force their way inside.
Giorgio’s furious voice boomed from the hallway, demanding that the assassin open the door immediately.
