Chapter 3 - The Silent Witness

Clara froze, unable to draw a breath as the cold metal dug into her skin.
She squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the gunshot that would leave Mia an orphan.
Instead, a frantic whisper demanded to know what she was doing in the restricted hallway.
Clara slowly turned her head and realized she was not looking at Giorgio.
It was Elena, the ICU nurse, clutching a heavy metal flashlight like a weapon.
Elena lowered the flashlight, her chest heaving as she recognized the new maid.
Clara showed Elena the small black device she had just pulled from behind the painting.
Elena’s face drained of color as she inspected the blinking red light on the plastic casing.
The nurse dragged Clara into an empty linen closet and shut the door tightly.
In the darkness, Elena revealed that Lorenzo Moretti was not in a natural coma.
She confessed that someone had been slowly altering his IV medications to keep him unconscious.
Elena had suspected foul play for weeks but had no proof and no one to trust.
She explained that the black box in Clara’s hand was a high-grade signal jammer.
It was designed to blind the estate’s security cameras and cut off the medical alerts to the outside world.
Clara realized with horror that Giorgio was preparing to finish the job tonight.
She pleaded with Elena to call the police and get everyone out of the house.
Elena shook her head, explaining that the local police chief was on Giorgio’s payroll.
There was no one coming to save them, and Lorenzo’s loyal guards had been sent away on false orders.
They were completely alone in the house with a man who intended to commit murder.
Clara told Elena they had to wake Lorenzo up or get him out of the bed immediately.
Suddenly, the red light on the jammer stopped blinking and turned solid green.
Elena gasped, whispering that the device had just been remotely activated.
May you like
The security cameras were now completely blind.
A heavy set of footsteps echoed down the hallway, heading straight for Lorenzo’s room.
