Chapter 30 - The Eternal Skyline

Back at Vance Tower, the sun began its slow, majestic descent toward the western horizon, bathing the Chicago skyline in a breathtaking palette of liquid gold, burnt orange, and deep violet.

High above the bustling streets, the private rooftop garden was an oasis of tranquility. The white lilacs swayed gently in the warm evening breeze, their sweet fragrance mingling with the crisp scent of fresh foliage along the polished slate pathways.

Dorian and Marin stood near the glass parapet, looking out over the sprawling, glittering expanse of the city below. The streets were alive with motion—cars moving like ribbons of red and white light, a thriving metropolis completely unaware of the invisible storm that had been fought and won to secure their peace.

Marin rested her head gently against Dorian’s shoulder, her hand interlaced naturally with his. Inside her pocket, her fingers brushed lightly against the cracked wristwatch—the silent reminder of where they had started, and the catalyst that had shattered her old life to make room for something infinitely stronger. But she didn't need to look at it anymore. The past was buried, the present was secure, and their future stretched out endlessly before them.

Beside them, Titan let out a long, contented sigh from the polished slate floor, resting his massive head between his paws as the city hummed peacefully far below.

"What are you thinking about?" Dorian asked softly, his arm wrapped securely around her waist, pulling her just a fraction closer against the crisp evening breeze.

"I was just thinking," Marin replied, a soft, radiant smile playing at the corners of her lips as she looked out toward the endless, brilliant horizon where the city met the stars, "about how a dog with an instinct for honesty changed the entire trajectory of our lives."

Dorian looked down into her dark, unblinking eyes, his heart completely at peace. "And to think," he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead, "we almost walked right past each other in the dark."

"Well," Marin whispered, her fingers tightening around his as they looked out together toward the bright, unbroken horizon, "good thing we had a very stubborn sentinel to make sure we never did."
