Chapter 18 - The Unseen Executioner
Suddenly, a single, incredibly deafening gunshot echoed through the massive steel mill, completely distinct and infinitely louder than the chaotic firefight below. It wasn't a standard tactical rifle, and it absolutely didn't come from Marcus’s team on the ground floor.
It came from the deep shadows of the upper observation deck, directly across from the catwalk.
Matteo froze completely, a look of profound, childlike confusion washing over his hardened, psychotic features. He looked down slowly. A blooming, massive stain of crimson blood was spreading rapidly across the absolute center of his chest. His grip on the hunting knife loosened entirely, the weapon clattering uselessly against the metal grating.
Lorenzo violently shoved his dying brother off him, scrambling backward and looking desperately up toward the observation deck to identify his mysterious savior.
Standing perfectly still in the shadows, holding a heavy, smoking military-grade sniper rifle resting flawlessly on the rusted window ledge, was Hannah.
She had blatantly refused to stay securely at the estate. She had used a broken service elevator at the back of the mill to reach the high ground hours before the meeting even started, dragging the heavy, massive weapon up the final flight of stairs herself despite her pregnancy. She hadn't let anyone know she was there, not even Marcus, because she knew with absolute certainty that Lorenzo would never have allowed her into a warzone.
