Chapter 10 - The Reign of the Queen

Six months later, the imposing, dark atmosphere of the Moretti estate had completely transformed into a vibrant, impregnable fortress of absolute power.
The whispers and cruel jokes among the staff had been permanently silenced, replaced entirely by an atmosphere of deep, unwavering respect and fierce loyalty.
Hannah sat comfortably at the head of the massive dining table, wearing a stunning, custom-tailored dark green silk dress that hugged her curves flawlessly.
She was no longer wearing the ill-fitting, pinching gray maid’s uniform, and she no longer hid in the shadows of the service corridors.
She was officially Mrs. Hannah Moretti, the legally wedded wife of the most powerful and feared mafia boss in Chicago.
Lorenzo sat directly beside her, drinking a glass of expensive red wine, looking incredibly relaxed and entirely healed from his near-fatal injuries.
He had successfully used Dante’s ledgers to utterly decimate the Russian syndicate, expanding his own empire and cementing his absolute, untouchable dominance.
"The new union contracts have been successfully negotiated, my love," Lorenzo reported smoothly, placing a file on the table for her review.
Hannah picked up the file, scanning the complex legal jargon with sharp, practiced efficiency.
She had proven herself to be a brilliant, incredibly strategic advisor, and Lorenzo trusted her business instincts completely, refusing to make major decisions without her input.
"The terms are excellent, but ensure they include the mandatory healthcare benefits for the dockworkers," Hannah instructed firmly, handing the file back to him.
"I will not have our employees treated like disposable assets."
Lorenzo smiled warmly, completely enamored by her fierce, compassionate leadership style that had significantly stabilized the lower ranks of his organization.
"As you command, my beautiful queen," Lorenzo agreed easily, signing the documents with a flourish.
The heavy dining room doors opened, and Dr. Harrison Caldwell walked nervously into the room, carrying a medical bag.
He had been permitted to live and maintain his position at the estate after thoroughly convincing Lorenzo he was entirely unaware of the poison plot.
"Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Moretti," Dr. Caldwell greeted them respectfully, bowing his head slightly.
"I am here for Mrs. Moretti's weekly medical evaluation."
Lorenzo immediately stood up, his protective instincts flaring as he gently helped Hannah stand from her chair.
"Is everything alright?" Lorenzo asked, a flicker of genuine anxiety crossing his handsome face.
"Everything is perfectly fine, Lorenzo, relax," Hannah laughed softly, touching his arm reassuringly.
She followed Dr. Caldwell into the private medical suite, the very same room where she had held Lorenzo through the freezing night six months ago.
The room was no longer cold or terrifying; it was bright, warm, and filled with state-of-the-art, life-saving equipment.
Dr. Caldwell performed a quick, professional ultrasound, smiling brightly at the glowing monitor.
"The baby's heartbeat is incredibly strong, Mrs. Moretti," the doctor announced happily, pointing to a tiny, fluttering rhythm on the screen.
"You are perfectly healthy, and the pregnancy is progressing flawlessly."
Hannah let out a long, happy sigh, tears of pure, unadulterated joy welling in her eyes.
She walked back out to the dining room, where Lorenzo was pacing anxiously like a caged lion.
"Well?" Lorenzo demanded, rushing over to wrap his strong arms securely around her waist.
"We are having a boy," Hannah smiled brilliantly, resting her hands gently over her slightly rounded stomach.
Lorenzo froze completely, a look of profound, overwhelming awe washing over his hardened features.
He dropped to his knees in his expensive suit, pressing a tender, lingering kiss against her stomach.
"He is going to rule the entire world," Lorenzo promised fiercely, looking up at her with eyes filled with absolute, unconditional love.
"No," Hannah corrected him softly, running her fingers through his dark hair.
"He is going to rule our world, and we are going to make sure he never has to fight in the dark."
The doctors had once declared the mafia boss dead, leaving him completely alone to freeze in the darkness.

But the woman everyone mocked had bravely stepped into the freezing cold and brought him back into the brilliant, beautiful light.
They had conquered the shadows together, and their magnificent, unbreakable reign had only just begun.
