Chapter 59 - The Depths of London

The underground storm drain was a labyrinth of echoing concrete tunnels, dripping water, and the pungent smell of stagnant sewage and industrial runoff. We waded through knee-deep, freezing water, our flashlights cutting through the thick darkness as the distant sounds of our pursuers faded away into the echoes of the cavernous tunnels.

"Are you alright?" Anthony asked, shining his light toward me, noticing the mud and water staining my clothes.

"I'm fine," I panted, wiping a wet strand of hair from my face. "More importantly... did you manage to save a copy of the data before the laptop fried?"

Anthony smiled faintly, reaching into his tactical vest and pulling out a small, physical micro-SD card, holding it up between his fingers. "I anticipated their kill-switch. I routed a secondary redundancy backup the moment we plugged into their server in Geneva. Vanguard thinks they destroyed us, but we hold the smoking gun right here."

A profound wave of relief washed over me. We had the evidence. The absolute proof needed to dismantle Vanguard Global once and for all. But we couldn't release it from an underground sewer. We needed a secure terminal, unmonitored and completely disconnected from their tracking grids.

"Where do we go?" I asked. "Every safehouse in London is burned."

"We go to ground level at dawn," Anthony replied firmly, his eyes unwavering. "We contact our old allies at Interpol—the ones Vance hasn't managed to corrupt yet. We hand them the micro-SD card, and we take our daughter back, once and for all."

As we walked deeper into the London underground, guided only by the faint glimmer of distant light at the end of the drainage tunnel, I knew the hardest part of our journey was still ahead of us. Vanguard would not stop until we were dead or silenced. But for the first time in months, the fear that had gripped my heart was replaced by a cold, unyielding resolve.

We were going to win.
