Chapter 55 - The Midnight Infiltration
The digital fortress of Meridian Tech was located in a nondescript glass-and-steel tower in the heart of London's financial district. To the public, it was a standard financial consultancy firm. To those in the know, it was the gateway to Europe's most guarded financial infrastructure.
Using the clearance credentials provided by Vanguard, Anthony and I bypassed the primary security checkpoints with ease, moving through the sterile, fluorescent-lit corridors like ghosts. Our objective was simple: access the sub-level server room, plant a hardware sniffer on the primary routing switch, and extract the master cryptographic keys before Vanguard realized we were operating off-script.
"We have three minutes before the roving guard patrol cycles back to this sector," Anthony whispered, his fingers flying across the keypad of the maintenance console we had plugged into the mainframe.
"The firewall is more aggressive than Vance let on," I said, my own fingers blurring across my tablet as I routed a proxy bypass through a hijacked server in Tokyo. "They've integrated biometric tripwires into the sub-routines."
"Bypass it with the Vanguard master key," Anthony instructed. "They programmed it to accept their administrative override without question."
I punched in the sequence, holding my breath as the progress bar crept forward. *78%... 91%... 99%...*
*Access Granted.*
A soft green light flickered on the console. The hardware sniffer was locked into the system, quietly siphon-downloading terabytes of classified transaction logs, offshore bank accounts, and internal Vanguard communications directly to our encrypted cloud vault.
"We're in," I whispered, a surge of adrenaline rushing through my veins. "Downloading the ledger now."
Suddenly, the overhead fluorescent lights flickered violently and died, plunging the server room into absolute darkness, save for the blinking red emergency lights along the floor.
An automated alarm shrieked through the corridor, its harsh klaxon echoing off the metal walls.
