Chapter 29 - The Breach at the Threshold

The double doors at the front of the grand foyer blew inward with a splintering crash as Vince and three heavily armed members of the security detail breached the threshold, their carbines raised and scanning the dim recesses of the hall.
"Clear!" Vince roared, sweeping his weapon toward the grand staircase before freezing as he registered the scene. His eyes darted from Julian standing on the mid-landing to Isabella standing beside him, and finally down to Dominic sitting motionless in his wheelchair at the base of the stairs. "Boss! Get back—we have movement on the perimeter snipers—"
"Stand down, Vince," Dominic said, his voice cutting through the command channel with absolute authority.
Vince lowered his rifle slightly, confusion warring with tactical instinct on his soot-streaked face. "Boss, they're compromised—we checked the eastern gate, it was a ghost op to pull us away—"
"I know," Dominic interrupted, his gaze never leaving Julian. "They didn't come to fight an army, Vince. They came to execute a coup."
Julian looked down at the armed operatives swarming the foyer with an expression of mild amusement, as though inspecting hired help at a garden party. He rested a hand casually inside his jacket pocket, his fingers brushing against something hidden from view.
"You've surrounded yourself with loyal dogs, Dominic," Julian remarked, his voice echoing off the marble arches. "Always the paranoid commander, needing armed guards to sleep in your own bed. But loyalty purchased with fear has an expiration date. Ask yourself why none of the perimeter sensors flagged the primary extraction team until they were already inside the perimeter walls."
Vince took a sharp step forward, his weapon rising again as suspicion flared in his eyes. "What did you say?"
"Check your tactical console, Vince," Julian said smoothly. "The local area network hasn't just been bypassed. It was rewritten three hours ago using administrative override codes that only one person possessed." Julian turned his gaze toward Isabella. "Or rather, two people."

Isabella reached into her coat pocket and withdrew a small, sleek data drive, holding it up between two fingers where the emergency sconces caught the metallic sheen. "The security grid isn't offline, Vince. It’s reporting directly to an external server in Zurich. Every camera, every motion sensor, every automated turret on this estate now answers to us. If you raise your weapon, the perimeter defenses will turn this foyer into a killing zone before you can pull the trigger."
Vince looked back at Dominic, seeking an order, a contradiction, any sign that the fortress protocol could override the betrayal. But Dominic remained still, his face carved from granite, processing the geometric perfection of the trap. The estate was no longer a sanctuary; it was a tomb designed by an architect who knew every brick, every wire, and every weakness in the man who owned it.
