Chapter 11 - The Approach to Warehouse 44

The damp chill of the Long Island pre-dawn air clung to the frosted glass of the Mercedes SUV as it slipped off the coastal highway and onto the industrial access roads of the marina district. Outside, the world was an oppressive wash of gray fog and jagged shadows cast by rusted shipping containers and decaying salt-bleached warehouses. Dominic Moretti did not blink. His gaze remained fixed on the twisting asphalt ahead, his mind completely detached from the physical cold. Every muscle in his upper body was coiled like steel cable, compensating for the dead weight of his lower limbs with sheer, unyielding willpower.

In the driver’s seat, Vince kept the heavy vehicle at a steady, unhurried crawl, extinguishing the headlights entirely to rely on military-grade thermal imaging fed into the reinforced dash display. "Perimeter feed is green, Boss," Vince murmured, his voice low and rhythmic, tuned to the silent frequency of men who lived in the shadows. "Sal and the Brooklyn crew have the access points sealed. No coast guard patrols scheduled until 06:00. We have a clear twenty-minute window before anyone notices an irregular footprint."

Dominic shifted his weight slightly, feeling the familiar, stubborn ache settle deep into his lower back—a constant reminder of the night his uncle’s men had tried to put him in the ground permanently. They had taken his mobility, but they had fundamentally miscalculated his capacity for retribution. A broken spine did not mean a broken mind, and an empire built on blood and steel could not be dismantled by a cowardly ambush in the dark.

"Keep the engine idling the moment we hit the loading bay," Dominic instructed, his voice a low, gravelly rasp that commanded immediate obedience. "I don't want a footprint left in the gravel. We go in through the side intake—quietly, and without an unnecessary breath."

Vince nodded once, his thumb resting lightly against the grip of his sidearm. "And if Victor's loyalists are dug in deep inside the main office?"

Dominic reached once more into his heavy wool overcoat, his fingers tracing the smooth, velvet-lined perimeter of the cream jeweler's box resting safely in his pocket. The three-carat princess-cut diamond inside caught no light now in the darkness, but its presence was a burning anchor in his chest. It was meant for Isabella, a token of a life they were supposed to begin far away from the violence of the Moretti syndicate. His uncle had taken her to leverage Dominic's compliance, believing fear would make him surrender his reclaimed throne. That miscalculation would be the last mistake Victor Moretti ever made.

"Then we carve a path straight to the center," Dominic replied coldly, his eyes narrowing as the massive corrugated steel silhouette of Warehouse 44 loomed through the fog ahead. "Leave no one standing who draws breath against us."
